Torryburn Celebrate a Randwick Winner
Randwick, January 18 - A homebred for the Cornish family owned Torryburn Stud, progressive four year-old Brettan scored a tenacious long head win at Randwick on Saturday.
Prepared by Anthony Cummings, the son of Commands led throughout and fought on strongly to win the 1600 metre contest by a long head, his third win from nine starts.
“It was a really good win for him first up and then it was a touch too long into his second up run,” said Cummings.
“He took benefit from that though and you can see that today.
“He’s a really nice horse and good to deal with, so has quite a bright future.”
Brettan is the first winner for Raheights, a metro winning half-sister by Rahy to stakes-winners Moulin Lady and Bannock.
Raheights has a yearling filly by Snitzel that has been entered for the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Torryburn Stud and was covered last year by dual Group I winner Zoustar in his first season at stud.
Brettan was the second leg a of a winning double at Randwick for horses foaled and raised at Torryburn Stud with four year-old Northern Meteor mare Nisroc saluting for Bennelong Bloodstock.
A model of consistency, Nisroc has five wins and three placings from 11 starts with prizemoney topping $160,000, so it was probably a good thing when she passed in shy of a modest reserve when consigned by Torryburn Stud for Bennelong Bloodstock at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
Foaled and raised at Torryburn, Nisroc is from South African Group II winner Dash for Gretna (SAfr), who was on-sold by Bennelong Bloodstock in 2011 for $20,000.
Torryburn Stud will be offering a draft of 13 for the upcoming Inglis Classic Yearling Sale on February 8, 9 and 10.
This is the sale at which they sold Group I winner Peggy Jean for $46,000 to Triple Crown Syndications, so it’s a draft not to be missed!
